Absolutely! Once your dog has become a member through the meet & greet process, you can schedule any additional services you may want for your dog before departure, such as basic grooming, etc.

For existing customers, simply access our customer portal and make your selections.

What are the check-in & check-out times for lodging?

For lodging, you can drop off or pick up your pet anytime during normal business hours. For your convenience, we recommend dropping off your pet at least 1 hour before closing to ensure that they have plenty of time to adapt before shift change. We also recommend picking up lodging guests before noon on the day of departure, as pick-ups done after noon will carry an additional night’s charge for their room. A bath or groom on the last day waives late fee. The noon cut off time is not affected by the time of drop off at the beginning of the reservation.

Can my dogs share a suite, if so, is there any savings?

Yes. We will always keep dogs from the same household together, unless otherwise instructed. It is our experience that dogs from the same family wish to remain together throughout their stay. Please let us know at check-in if your dogs should be separated for mealtime due to food aggression or if one dog tends to eat the other dog’s food if not monitored. Based on their size differences, play personality and energy levels, they may end up in separate play groups during DayPlay

Should I bring my dog’s own food?

Please do!  If your pet suffers from allergies or a has usual diet, we recommend it. It’s important that your dog is as comfortable as possible while staying with us. Abruptly changing your dog’s diet can upset their tummy and cause diarrhea and other digestive issues, in turn creating undue stress for your dog. We’re happy to prepare and serve meals just the way your dog likes it! Food should be pre-measured in baggies and labeled by meal (not by day). Individual meal baggies should be stored in a larger air-tight plastic container (Tupperware) and clearly labeled with dog’s first and last name. If an owner forgets food or underestimates the meals, we are happy to feed your dog or cat our high-quality kibble. Just provide us with quantity and frequency instructions.

Can I bring my pet’s bed from home?

You sure can. Though Barkefellers does provide raised Kuranda dog beds to ensure all our guests are comfortable — you may bring bedding, a blanket, towel, an unlaundered shirt, or anything else that makes your dog feel most comfortable staying away from home.

What else should/shouldn’t I bring for my dog’s stay?

Pet parents are welcome to bring a variety of things. A leash (either regular or retractable), grooming supplies if you wish to have the pet brushed, treats, bones, filled Kongs, and anything else that you feel will make your pet comfortable are welcome. Please try to limit toys to 2 or 3 items, and we recommend you not bring plush toys for safety’s sake, as the filling can be ingested. We just ask that you don’t bring anything you wouldn’t be comfortable with your dog having unsupervised at home. Bowls are not needed unless a slow feeder or other specific bowl is required. No need for tennis balls — we have plenty! Please label all belongings with a permanent marker.

What if I have a special needs dog?

Every special needs dog is a case-by-case scenario. We ask that all pet parents are up front with whatever ailments their dog may have (life threatening or serious medical condition, diabetes, blindness, impaired vision, deafness, limited steps, or ability to walk, etc.) We definitely consider the comfort, well-being, and changing needs of our special needs and “seasoned” guests. We have bedding to accommodate the need for a softer place to rest, as well as raised feeders to make getting to their food and water easier. We do allow beds from home, so don’t hesitate to bring an orthopedic or special bed for them. Upon check-in, we may have you sign a medical directive to ensure that everyone is aware of whatever emergency measures may need to be taken should something happen while your dog is within our care. We do require an available emergency contact that can pick up your dog if necessary. Please call us for our specific questions regarding your dog’s medical needs. If you’re ever uncertain about what type of lodging is best for your pet, ask us! We’ll be more than happy to help you make a well-informed decision.

Can you give my dog medication from home?

Yes. We will log your pet’s medications and dispensing instructions upon arrival and administer the medications as needed.

Medication must be pre-measured in a pill reminder (original medicine containers must still come with the pet in case of emergency). There is a charge of $5 for medication administration. Medication charges are waived for Presidential, Luxury, and Terrace Suites stays. Our administering staff have been highly trained to ensure that your pet gets the best possible care during their stay.

Can you give my dog injections if required?

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to accommodate pets that require injections, including insulin shots.

What vaccinations does my pet need?

To assure the health of all our guests, we require proof that all the following vaccinations are current to secure your reservation. DHLPP/Corona, Bordetella (Kennel Cough), Rabies, Canine Flu Vaccination: H3N8 and H3N2. All shots per your vet’s protocol. Feel free to share the new expirations dates by customer portal, phone, fax, or simply email them to barkefellers@shots.pet.

How often will my dog go outside?

All of our facilities have large outdoor play yards that the dogs get to play in, weather permitting. We also schedule potty breaks 3 times during the day (in the morning, at midday, and in the evening).

Can I call to check on my dog while I’m away?

Of course, we encourage it! Feel free to call us any time during business hours to get an update on your pet. We understand how much you miss them, and we are happy to report your dog’s eating habits, activities and overall well-being. We want you to know that we are always available to answer any questions you may have. If you call outside of normal business hours, leave us a message. We will give you a call back as soon as we can.

Will my dog be on camera during their stay?

Not all suites are viewable on camera. If you book far enough in advance, we may be able to book your dog in one of our suites with 24-hour webcam access depending on availability. If you desire a suite guaranteed on-camera, each of our spacious Luxury and Presidential suites comes equipped with a private, password-protected camera, viewable 24-hours a day.

Do you ever reach maximum capacity?

Yes, we do! Especially when kids are out of school or during any federal or major holiday. We recommend all reservations be made far enough in advance to guarantee your spot. And, while we often fill up, it is still possible that we can accommodate last minute guests if we have a cancellation, so always give us a call to verify availability.

If my dog is staying at Barkefellers® overnight or for a weekend, can I get them groomed as well?

Absolutely! We offer a special “Play & Groom” spa special as an option along with our lodging packages.

Do you offer pet sitting (day lodging)?

Yes! For dogs that are less social or unable to pass the Temperament Test, day lodging is a wonderful alternative. Your pet will stay in one of our standard rooms and will be regularly taken to a private play yard. Ask about adding on play sessions to ensure your pup is getting all the activity they need!

How are lodging fees calculated?

Lodging room rates are charged per night. On the day of arrival, guests may be dropped off at any time during normal business hours, although we do recommend dropping off no later until an hour before closing. On the scheduled date of departure, check out is at noon. However, you may pick up your pet anytime during business hours with the understanding that pets picked up after noon will incur an additional night’s fee.

Do you require deposits for lodging?

For single night visits, no deposit is required except for new customers. For longer visits a $25-50 deposit is required depending on if it is standard or peak season.

What is the daily schedule like for my dog?

Great question! We want your pet to feel right at home when staying with us. We ensure that they are taken outside to do their business at least 3 times per day. In addition, feeding is done at 8am, 12pm and 5pm. Have a special routine that you would like us to follow? No problem! Ask us about our additional services and we’ll help you customize a stay that works for you and your pet!

What type of exercise will my dog get while lodging?

Every canine guest room includes at least 3 daily trips out to a private play yard. This means that your pet will not only get to use the restroom regularly but will get to run and romp around, splash in the summer pools and play on the yard equipment, too! Doggy Daycare is our most popular add-on for our lodging guests. When you opt-in, your buddy will spend their days in our supervised daycare rooms, running and playing with our other guests. We do require that all daycare participants pass a Temperament Test prior to entry. If you would like to arrange for your canine to take this test, simply fill out the application and we will contact you to schedule a date.

Do you lodge puppies/kittens?

We do! When it comes to puppies, we do require that they are at least 12 weeks of age and are current with their vaccinations. For kittens, we require that they are at least 8 weeks of age and have had their FVRCP vaccination. If you want to start basic commands and ensure your pup is socialized, ask about starting our Puppy Prep Training Program through our K9 Campus. Barkefellers® offers both Day School and Stay School sessions!

Are cats kept separate from dogs?

Always. Our feline guests have their own room that is located away from our canine guests and boasts cat trees, cat toys, cozy beds and scratching posts.

Can I bring my cat’s own food?

Yes! You may bring your cat’s own food. Please make sure to bag each serving separately, label it with your cat’s full name, and provide us with quantity, frequency, and preparation instructions. We’re happy to prepare and serve meals just the way your cat likes it!

Can I bring toys or treats for my cat from home?

Yes. Please try to limit toys to 2 or 3 items, and we recommend you not bring plush toys for safety’s sake, as the filling can be ingested.

What vaccinations does my cat need?

To assure the health of all our guests, we require proof that all the following vaccinations are current to secure your reservation. FVRCP – Feline Panleukopenia, Feline Rhinotracheitis & Feline Calicivirus, Rabies, All shots per your vet’s protocol.

Do you have peak pricing?

Peak pricing may apply during major holidays and school breaks. This allows us to maintain the exceptional level of care and service your pets deserve during our busiest times. For specific dates and details, please reach out to your location.

Do you require reservations for daycare?

Online reservations are highly recommended. We’ll usually accept a limited number of walk-ins for daycare. But please keep in mind that we can only accept as many dogs as our facility safely allows. So, walk-ins’ chance being turned away due to lack of space. Dogs with daycare reservations are guaranteed a spot! Use our online reservations or call us at (317) 913-9400

What should/shouldn’t I bring for daycare?

We recommend keeping what you bring to a minimum, as they are only spending a few hours of the day with us. You are welcome to bring a snack or treat for them. Unless there is a medical reason that dictates the need for your dog to have three meals a day, there is no need to bring food for daycare.

If my dog requires feeding or medication, will you administer?

Yes. We are happy to help during their day with us! We will log your pet’s food/medication when you check in. Simply leave detailed dispensing instructions and we’ll be sure that they get a private room to relax, eat and take their needed medications before returning to the pack. There is a $5 charge for each administration to cover accommodations.

Can you give my dog injections if required?

Unfortunately, we are currently unable to accommodate pets that require injections, including insulin shots.

Can puppies and senior dogs participate?

Absolutely. Provided your puppy is at least 12 weeks of age they can participate in our traditional doggie daycare. Senior dogs too are welcome and will be matched with a group that best fits their energy level. If your pet requires certain rules and limitations, please disclose these on your Temperament Evaluation application and thoroughly discuss them with our daycare staff to ensure that they have a safe and enjoyable time while at daycare.

What kind of play space and activities do you offer?

All Barkefellers have over 10,000 square feet of safe and secure indoor and outdoor play areas. Indoor play spaces are covered with a soft rubber flooring which provides a durable, resilient, surface for dog play. Our outdoor play areas are surrounded by an 8-foot solid fence and separated by two 4-foot chain link fences with privacy screens. The area is covered in a soft, resilient, sports turf. Each play surface gets disinfected several times a day. During the summer months we offer kiddie pools. Throughout the year our doggie daycare areas boast large play equipment ensuring that your pet has the ultimate staycation! Our daycare technicians vary activities from day to day, offering water time, games and more, depending on the time of year and the energy level of the pack.

Will my dog's potty-training be impacted by daycare?

Not at all. Housebroken dogs do not revert at Barkefellers® thanks to specialized flooring. Our flooring, which is used in many high-end daycares, offers excellent sanitation. It resists smells, and our team members clean messes immediately to make sure the play area is sanitized to minimize the spread of bacteria. Our high-tech HVAC system whisks away smelly odors and circulates fresh air into the space.

Is there a lot of noise and barking in daycare?

Not as much as one might expect. While the daycare room is often bustling with energy, our guests generally spend their time running and playing. While dogs do bark, some more than others, it is not often that many of them do it at once. We do play music throughout the daycare areas but the barking is generally reserved for the welcoming of new guests and the occasional over-spirited game of chase.

Do the dogs ever get to take a break?

Absolutely. While some of our guests can run all day, others tucker-out a bit earlier. Daycare is full of fun and play, but it can often be a somewhat overwhelming environment at first for dogs that have little to no socialization with other dogs. Our staff is trained to watch for cues that let them know when they’ve had enough. Naptime gives each guest a break from their friends and an opportunity to rest. We’re happy to separate dogs from the group for a few minutes to a few hours to ensure that they get the rest needed in order to thoroughly enjoy their time with the pack.

What is a daycare punch card and how does it work?

Our daycare punch cards are prepaid discounted daycare days that can be used any time during the year. Ranging from 5-day passes to 50-day passes, they are a great way to save some money on your pet’s daycare and skip the checkout counter when picking up your pup! Discounts are applied per the number of days purchased in advance. Daycare punch cards are non-refundable and cannot be used towards any other service. They expire after 1-year. However, unlike other facilities, our punch cards are transferable and can be used at any Barkefellers® convenient location.

How many dogs are in group play?

Proper grouping is one of the most important means of creating a safe daycare environment. Beware of pet care facilities that take many dogs, throw them into a room together, and call it daycare. Groups should remain small and always monitored. They should NEVER be left unattended. It’s a very dangerous practice that can lead to conflict and injuries. Barkefellers® understands canine behavior and breaks dogs into groups based on size, temperament, and play activity to ensure that everyone has a fun and safe time! Our technicians match dogs as they arrive daily, allowing them to tell us how they feel that day and where they would have the most fun. We offer two scheduled playtimes per day, allowing ample time for play and rest.

How are corrections handled and what provisions are there if there is an altercation?

Excellent question! While most corrections are done with verbal cues and body language, they are not always sufficient in gaining the attention needed. If a dog is particularly disruptive, just like children playing on playgrounds, they will be given a time-out until they are able to safely return. In the rare event that there is an altercation, our staff will immediately separate and leash the dogs, removing them from the group and assess for injury. Dogs play with their mouths and paws and like to wrestle around on the ground with each other. If injuries do occur, you are responsible for any medical expenses for your dog, as you would be for your child. Barkefellers® maintains a strict staff-to-dog ratio and our team is constantly involved in, and moving throughout, the pack. They have been trained to watch for the slightest physical or verbal cue that would imply an altercation could take place. But you need to be comfortable in allowing your dog to participate in group play. If you are not, private play is a great way for your pup to have some fun without being a part of the pack. Yet, most pet parents find the benefits of group play outweighs any risk.

Will my dog get sick in daycare?

Depends. Taking your dog to the pet store, outside on a walk or any place where lots of dogs congregate, like dog parks, dog shows, or veterinarian offices can expose your pup to germs. Likewise, no pet care facility can 100% guarantee that a dog won’t get sick. But at Barkefellers®, we can assure you that we do everything possible to make sure that your dog is provided as safe and clean an environment as is possible. Besides our stringent cleaning and sanitizing protocols, Barkefellers® takes every major precaution to prevent the spread of any kind of illness. Including mandating the Bordetella vaccination for your dog and heavily invested in products and technology that help prevent the spread of any contagious disease. Yet, similar to children catching a cold at school, though not likely it is possible for your dog to experience an illness such as harmless puppy warts or a mild case of canine cough (sometimes referred to as Kennel cough). Kennel cough is the disparaging term used to describe a multitude of contagious respiratory illness in dogs. A vet visit will be needed, but both usually resolve very quickly without complications.

After daycare, my dog drinks a TON of water. Is that normal?

We get asked this question all the time! Please rest assured that your dog has clean water available 24-hours a day. Some dogs don’t drink as much while in daycare due to the extra amount of mental and physical stimulation they experience. Much like small children, all the new people, sights, sounds, and smells can be overly exciting and the last thing they want to do is stop to drink. While this is common, know that we monitor your pet’s water intake, and (although it is rare) we will let you know if your pet is not drinking at all. If your dog drinks in excess when they get home, simply keep an eye on how much water they drink in short periods as drinking large amounts of water too quickly may cause vomiting. Otherwise, it’s perfectly normal.

Do you have peak pricing?

Peak pricing may apply during major holidays and school breaks. This allows us to maintain the exceptional level of care and service your pets deserve during our busiest times. For specific dates and details, please reach out to your location.

Do I need to book a grooming appointment in advance?

Yes. Our spa services are very popular and fill up quickly. We do offer easy online reservation requests with just a few clicks. You can even request your pets favorite groomer. Try it out! Simply complete the form and one of our team members will contact you to schedule a time that works for you.

How long will my pet’s grooming take?

Grooming appointments usually take 2-3 hours, depending on the condition and length of the coat as well as the desired cut and breed of your pet.

Can I drop off my pet before their appointment and pick them up later?

We ask that pets arrive 5-10 minutes prior to their grooming appointment. Be aware that if you and your pet are running more than 5-10 minutes late, we may reschedule your appointment due to time constraints. Upon completion, you will receive a phone call or text to let you know that your pet is ready to be picked up. We ask that all pets are picked up within 1-hour of phone call. If your schedule does not permit you to meet these parameters, consider booking a lodging stay or daycare services to accommodate your pet before or after their appointment. Pets not picked up within the allotted timeframe may be moved to a lodging room and that cost will be added to your account.

Will my pet wear a muzzle during grooming?

Most of our guests are fine with our gentle grooming process but, on occasion, a muzzle may be required. Our grooming muzzles are available in a variety of sizes to ensure that your pet is as comfortable as possible. Do not assume that the use of a muzzle means you have an aggressive dog. Some pets just use their mouths to communicate more than others. You can trust that our groomers are trained and equipped to handle any situation in a way that leaves your buddy feeling loved and pampered.

Why is the cost of grooming an estimate?

Your pet is unlike any other pet in the world. Totally unique. Because of this, it’s hard for us to give an exact price without first meeting them, examining their coat; learning about their temperament, allergies/medical conditions; and checking for skin conditions, matting, etc. Once we get to know your pet, we should be able to give you an exact price for future appointments.

Can I choose which groomer I want?

Yes! When you make your reservation request, simply let us know which groomer you prefer, and we will find an appointment opening that works for you.

Do you offer scent-free or hypoallergenic shampoos?

Absolutely! Skin issues are the #1 reason dogs visit the vet! Check your dog’s skin regularly. Skin problems in dogs can be caused by all sorts of conditions from allergies to infections. Keeping your dog clean is the best way to minimize bacteria and reduce irritation. While we offer an array of luxury shampoos and scents, our specialty hypoallergenic shampoo is for sensitive skin or pet parents with sensitivities to smell. Just let our groomers know your preference, and we will be happy to accommodate.

Do I really need to brush my dog’s teeth?

Yes. Dogs need regular dental care just like humans. The dental tartar you see building up on your dog’s teeth is about 80% bacteria and can damage the gums, the bones beneath and the ligaments that hold teeth in place. These bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause damage to vital organs such as the liver, kidneys, and heart. Dental disease is painful for your dog. Regular brushing with dog-safe enzymatic toothpaste and dental treats helps keep your dog healthy and happy. Most dogs will eventually need a full dental cleaning with dental X-rays under anesthesia by a licensed veterinarian. In the meantime, add teeth brushing to your grooming appointment.

My dog has a handicap/medical issue. Can you still groom them?

We’re happy to assist in grooming or bathing your special pet. We do recommend that parents of pets with arthritis or medical issues consult their veterinarian to confirm that their pet is healthy enough for the grooming process. Be sure to disclose all concerns or conditions with your groomer prior to your appointment.

Can you groom my dog during daycare or lodging?

Definitely! In fact, it’s quite common. Many of our guests make reservations for bath and grooming services while they are here for daycare or lodging stays.

Can I stay and watch my pet being groomed?

Much like young children, pets act differently in front of their pet parents than they do when alone. Because of this, we do not allow pet parents into the grooming room. Pets who can see their owners tend to be more anxious during bathing and grooming which can lead to more stress for them and for you. We want our guests to be as calm and relaxed as possible during their time with us so that they want to come back. You are welcome to wait in the lobby during your pet’s appointment where you can view the grooming room via a live stream web cam on our TVs.

My dog cries during nail trims, is there anything you can do?

We understand. Some dogs just don’t like their feet to be touched. Many dogs will yelp or cry any time someone takes hold of their paws; especially if it is someone they don’t know well. But not to worry; we have a few tricks up our sleeves to help calm and distract our more anxious guests. You can trust that our groomers will treat your pet like their own and, your pet will adapt to the idea of their feet being handled over time.

What are different types of training methods for dogs?

There are several dog training methodologies that range from the correction based/alpha method to 100% positive reinforcement. These different philosophies use a variety of equipment to train dogs such as e-collars, prong collars, treats and simple praise. All training should be based on the science behind how dogs learn and focus, and encouraging the behavior the pet parent wants repeated, instead of severely correcting the dog when he makes a mistake.

What types of training do you offer?

At Barkefellers®, we understand that no two dogs are alike. Because of this, we offer individualized basic obedience training with positive reward reinforcement. We offer both day school and stay school options to help your buddy get the best training experience possible.

What method of training do you use?

We feel strongly that you should be 100% comfortable with our training methods. Our trainers use positive behavior reinforcement, which uses a positive reward (treat, toy, ball, praise, etc.) for desired behaviors. This method develops an internal motivation for the dog to listen and is a powerful tool for shaping and changing your dog’s behavior. We also use both gentle leaders and easy walks and we will size your dog for either. While chain collars might be a good fit for some, they are not a good fit for others. As we get to know both you and your dog, our trainer will make personalized recommendations for you and your dog.

Do you offer consultation on which training is best for my dog?

Yes! We’ll discuss your pet’s history, your wants, needs, and get to know your pet so we can help you select the best training approach for both you and your pet. Please contact our trainer to schedule an appointment for professional and thorough consultation today!

Do I need to bring anything to class besides my dog?

We ask that you bring your dog in with a flat collar and on a regular leash. Please do not bring retractable leashes! During your first training session, our trainer will let you know if there are any tools or treats that they recommend in assisting with your dog’s training. From there, you can bring your dog’s treats, or treats are available for purchase in our lobby.

Do you have any breed restrictions?

We do not discriminate against any breed. We will work with any dog that is good with our trainers and help them with a variety of situations as dogs get comfortable.

My dog has a handicap/medical issue. Can you still train them?

If your dog is deaf, blind, suffering from a mental or physical disability, it doesn’t mean they can’t be trained. While they may lack the means to perform as some of their classmates, they still can enjoy the personal time with you as well as the challenges and rewards of dog training. Contact a Barkefellers® to discuss your pet’s special needs and we’ll be sure to help you find a good fit!

How many lessons will my dog get in a day?

Each dog gets 3 lessons a day with each lesson lasting 15-20 minutes.

What is a pet parent transition session?

A transition lesson is a 20-minute session where the parents come in and the trainer fills them in on what their little buddy has learned in training. The parents will get homework to work on with their dog. These transition lessons occur at a designated time between Monday and Friday.

Will my dog get to play with other dogs?

We will do a temperament evaluation if your pup has not been to Barkefellers® before. If they pass, they will get three hours of group play with other dogs! If your dog doesn’t play well with others, they will receive 2 private play sessions with a team member.

I have 2 dogs. Does training them both cost more?

Training fees are charged on a per-dog basis. On occasion, we do offer a discount for a second dog from the same family and our team will be sure to let you know when such an opportunity arises! Should you want to train more than one dog at a time, we ask that you bring one human handler for each dog in attendance.

When should I start training my dog?

Now! Any age is a good age to begin training. If you have a new puppy, training at Barkefellers® can begin at 10-weeks, if you wish for them to participate in our group play wait to start when they are 12-weeks old. In the meantime, set the rules for your puppy as soon as you bring them home. This will help them grow up into well behaved dogs. Remember that your puppy is just a baby, so if it messes up, nips at you, or has an accident in the house it isn’t trying to be an alpha, it just made an innocent mistake. Praise your pup anytime they are calm or when they comply with your direction. Prevent your puppy from discovering negative behaviors, such as chewing shoes or getting into the trash. Finally, puppy proof your house to limit access to things that could be destroyed or cause them harm. Senior dog? No problem! And yes, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Training your dog helps to ensure that your pet becomes, and stays, a lifelong companion. Regardless of your dog’s age, we can help!

Is there a "missed-class" make up policy?

We know that life doesn’t always go as planned. If something comes up and you miss a class, simply let the trainer know. We can usually schedule and additional class for dogs who may not have made it to every appointment. If you know in advance that you will miss one or more of the class dates, inform your trainer so that we can help you stay on track and get the most out of your dog training classes.

What makes Barkefellers® training different from other training?

Ours works! Our trainers have a lot of experience with dogs. They understand that every dog is unique, and the same training technique doesn’t work for every pet. They get to know you and your pet; your personalities, wants and needs. This allows us to customize each lesson to your dog in a way that fits for you. Our years of proven results speak for themselves! Interested in learning more? Contact a Barkefellers® trainer today!
